Both male and female hummingbirds are observed multiple times daily nectaring from my Rose of Sharon (white petals with magenta centre) parent bush and all of the offspring bushes which have emerged from seeds over the past 25 years. The Rose of Sharon was well established just out the front window when we moved in 25 years ago. When I observed hummingbirds and many varieties of bees nectaring it earned a permanent place in the garden as did all the offspring plants. The hummingbirds check daily until the first blooms open. It is in peak bloom now and the hummers are a regular sight from before sunrise until evening. I know for sure that we have 2 females and one male as I have sighted them competing.
