Migration has begun! As I walked north to town, I observed 4 monarchs high overhead flying 20-30' south down US HWY-23 in directional flight. They were spaced at about 50' apart. I decided to look for monarchs at my other locations along the highway. I saw one nectaring on Queen Anne's Lace in a field behind a credit union building, and one on a milkweed plant at the observatory building. I then went to School Drive and saw 2 monarchs in the field of milkweed. At the public library flower gardens and the nearby water tower milkweed field, I saw none. I went to the District #2 Health Building and the childrens fishing ponds and saw 3 on Joe-pye-weed. Across the street at the Harrisville Harbor milkweed field, I counted 5 more monarchs. I then walked through town and saw one more. On my way home, I saw one each at the end of 3rd and 2nd Streets on Heath White Asters, and another one at the railroad tracks at Harrisville State Park on Bull Thistle. I saw none along the Lake Huron shoreline at the park. Finally, I observed one in my backyard flower garden. Weather was 100% sunshine with the Wind ESE-5-8 mph, and the Temperature topped out at 81F.
