Today I went to Harrisville State Park to see if there was a migration on a northwest wind along the beach of Lake Huron. I observed from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, but no monarchs. On my way out of the park, I observed a male and a female monarch on Bull Thistle flowers at the railroad tracks. When I arrived home, I did not see any monarchs in my Waystation at 1:50 PM in my backyard. At 2 PM, I sat on my swing to see what would come along and land in the waystation garden. Between 2 and 3 PM, eight monarchs came in from the northeast and landed on the Joe-pye-weed, and another monarch passed heading southwest. At 3:30 PM, one of the monarchs left heading southwest. At 4 PM, another two left together heading in the same direction. At 5:30 PM, another monarch left the garden and circled it and landed on the lawn for 5 minutes before lifting off and heading west. At 6 PM, another left heading southwest. At 6:30 PM, another left heading again southwestward. At 6:55 PM, another monarch came in from the northeast and joined the other two remaining monarchs, but it soon headed out a couple of minutes later. Finally, at 7:15 PM, the other two monarchs headed out together high over the maple trees heading more south than southwest. Weather was mostly sunny with the Wind NNW 9-20 mph, and the Temperature topped out at 78F.
