Today the northwest wind was still blowing to 20 mph, so I checked my backyard flower garden at 10:30 AM to see a female monarch on the Joe-pye-weed. I then went to Harrisville State Park to see if any monarchs were migrating. Again, for the 2nd day in a row, no monarchs were seen on a northwest wind as I watched the shoreline of Lake Huron for one hour. I decided to check the milkweed fields just outside the park on 2nd and 3rd Streets, and observed one monarch nectaring on a Queen Anne's Lace. I returned home at 12:15 PM, and a male monarch had joined the female already mentioned. Both stayed until a thunderstorm went through with heavy rain from 3-4 PM. They both went into the maple trees. They returned at 4:15 PM. The male left heading west at 6:50 PM, and the female left at 7:50 PM flying high into my neighbor's aspen tree. The Temperature topped out at 75F. My friend (Larry) said he saw one monarch at his house and another one in town before noon. He also saw 4 monarchs at the harbor in the early afternoon.
