Monarchs collecting nectar from purple thistle and flitting around common milkweed which has seed pods on it now. I cannot see any eggs on the milkweed, so this may be Gen 4 pre-migration. The land I am at is on top of Dry Run Mountain. Weather has been unseasonable hot and humid this summer, but today is pleasant and dry. This R.O.W. ground where the monarchs are was sprayed last year to prevent trees growing into the overhead power lines. I specifically asked them to NOT spray the milkweed (and I was able to be present when they were on my land spraying), and they managed to avoid some of the clumps of milkweed (July 2019). In Oct 2019 I planted approx 300 milkweed seeds. May have paid off.
