I went to Harrisville State Park to see if the monarchs were migrating on a 10-25 mph Northwest winds at 11:30 AM. I observed 9 on directional flight by 2:30 PM. The wind made it feel cold at the beach under a lot of low clouds. I decided to check the 2nd/3rd Street fields just outside the northern border of the park and counted 4 monarchs on various flowers. I went a little further north to Jackson Street and saw one monarch on Joe-pye-weed. I went home and saw one monarch at the railroad tracks along the west side of the park nectaring on Purple Loosestrife. I also saw 4 monarchs in my flower garden at my house at 4 PM. My friend (Larry) counted 17 monarchs passing his house north of town going southwest, and 3 more on his bicycle ride. All this was between 10 AM to 2 PM. The Temperature topped out at 69F.
