Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/23/2020

Number: 92

92 Monarch adults counted during morning walk on Big Loop path. Lots of plains, horsetail, broadleaf and swamp milkweed blooming.

Yes, absolutely Monarchs (studied entomology in graduate school at Nebraska, and have visited the Monarch reserves near Angangueo and Zitacuaro). They were flying randomly to nectar on blooming milkweeds…there was lots of both butterflies and milkweed.

Bent’s Fort is part of the National Park System so the area is little distrubed. The walk was approximaley two miles and took around an hour to complete the loop and a few Monarchs were observed during most of the the walk. The only photos I have are of the milkweed..
