Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/25/2020

Number: 18

I thought there would be a migration today. The Wind was NW at 2 mph at 8 AM. At 8:18 AM, I saw a monarch heading west along the maple trees in my backyard. So, I headed to Harrisville State Park and saw 3 nectaring on loosestrife at the railroad tracks. From 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM, I observed no monarchs on migration at the beach along Lake Huron. I decided to walk around town and saw one at the end of 2nd Street at 9:40 AM, one at Harrisville Harbor at 10:15 AM, and another at the Health Department front lawn at 10:25 AM. They all were nectaring on knapweed. I then walked down the 3rd Street walkway in town at 10:40 AM and observed 9 monarchs. Eight were nectaring on a purple butterfly bush that was 6' tall, and the other monarch was feeding on a sunflower. I then went to the public library flower gardens and saw a monarch on a purple coneflower at 10:55 AM. Finally, I observed one monarch at the end of School Drive at 11:05 AM flying about the milkweed field. At my house from noon to 6 PM, I saw no monarchs in my flower garden. Weather was 100% sunshine with the Wind NW-2-25 mph to 1 PM, and turning NE-9 until 5 PM when the wind became SSW-10 mph. The Temperature topped out at 77F.
