Another adult monarch sighted today on the wild milkweed. I don't know where they might be roosting, but this is second sighting this week. Last year, I didn't see any monarchs.
I have roses, petunia, wild milk weed, marigold, rose of sharon and special butterfly/hummingbird flowers growing here from seed distributed by the national park service. There are numerous trees here of several varieties of oaks, maples, holly, tulip and red bud on the property. The monarchs seem particularly interested in the milk weed, plus the pears.
Today is particularly hot and humid, with overnight temps remaining in the 80s.
It is so exciting to see the Monarchs. My granddaughter and I participate in a monarch catch and release for the park service every fall. We live near numerous reserves and open fields, plus the Ohio River to the south.
