Have been seeing several monarchs a day nectaring on my Joe Pye weed and laying eggs on my common milkweed. I've been rearing larvae in a screen-topped aquarium for a couple of weeks now. 4 eclosed so far, and 7 more chrysalids waiting. Of first seven brought in to the aquarium as 4th instar larvae, only 3 survived. One was parasitized by tachinid flies--10 fly larvae emerged from "hanging J-monarch. The other three died after chyrsalids turned black, but no flies emerged from those. I'm now bringing them into the aquarium as tiny, second instars.
