Monarch Waystation #271 reports an odd sighting. I suspect this inch-long tubular mass is the remains of a monarch larva that was attacked by a wasp. This may be one of the two late 4th or early 5th instar larva previously reported seen today just after 7 am. Photo was taken ~9 am on the same rim of the pot with the milkweed the two instars were seen on at 7am. If not a wasp's work, then perhaps a skink. Both predators are common in the yard.
