Monarch Waystation #271 reports an intact and slightly faded male monarch first sighted nectaring on tropical milkweed in the front beds about 11:45 am. He did a mix of "cruising" the front beds, resting on upright non-blooming plants and nectaring while I was weeding. Photo caught him resting on a Culver's Root stem with potted Salvia blooming nearby. After a while he landed briefly on the available milkweed blooms [tropical and butterflyweed], then immediately cruised around or rest. Either he was skittish about me being around, bullied off blooms by bumblebees or was giving flowers time to reload nectar. By noon I was in the back and saw presumably the same male doing the same routine in the back bed, where blooms of swamp, tropical and butterflyweed were available.
