My friend (Larry) called me at 10:30 AM to tell me he saw 7 monarchs migrating southwestward at his house northwest of town since 7:30 AM. The wind was still out of the NW, so we met at Harrisville State Park along Lake Huron to continue the migration count. We only counted 14 more from 11 AM to 2 PM as the wind turned NNE. No monarchs were seen to 3 PM. We decided to check out our favorite locations and came up with the following:
End of 2nd Street - 3.
Downtown - 5.
Harbor - 1.
Public Library gardens - 6.
School Street - 2.
3rd Street walkway - 12.
1st and Church Streets - 3.
Train Station - 1.
Township Recreation Area - 5.
Along S US HWY-23 - 8.
My house - 1.
Total: 68.
Weather was mostly cloudy with the Wind NW-5 mph AM, and then NNE-10 mph. The Temperature topped out at 67F. Count ended at 7 PM at my house.
