Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/30/2020

Number: 2

Two monarchs “roosted” in the silver maple behind our house. Not sure I’d this qualifies as a roost? One arrived around 6:30, and the other arrived around 7pm. The second butterfly flew around and seemed to be able to locate the first. They rested about one foot apart from each other. Overnight temps were in the mid fifties and it rained all night. The monarchs were still on the tree in the morning and didn’t depart until around 10am when the sun touched them. Temps are still only around 62F at the time of this report.

Nearby nectar sources: abundant rudbeckia and phlox, also royal standard hosta (I saw a monarch last week sipping from the hostas).
