Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/31/2020

Number: 58

The monarchs were mostly flying around trying to migrate low over the ground because of the high SE winds. Some were nectaring. My friend (Larry) observed some migration higher over the ground in town and at the beach at Harrisville State Park until the wind whipped up to 20 mph from the east at noon. I took my regular 2 mile walk to town and back at 3 pm. Here are the totals at these locations by 5 PM:
Larry at Harrisville State Park beach - 17.
Larry's friend's house on Jackson Street - 12.
Larry in town - 10.
My House - 3.
Harrisville State Park - 4.
End of 3rd Street - 4.
3rd Street walkway - 8.
Weather was mostly sunny with the Wind ESE-10-20 mph. The Temperature topped out at 76F. A total of 460 monarchs were counted for August. This is the 3rd highest since record keeping began in 2010. Last year, 585 were recorded in August. The record still stands at 1,524 in 2018.
