Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/29/2020

Number: 1

10:23am - Flying quickly (too fast to obtain photo - less than 5 seconds visible when sighted) 10+ feet above the 8-10' tall, 4" diameter sunflower large "field" northwesterly at Tingly Beach Park toward the Rio Grande (100' to west). No interest in the sunflowers (this variety of sunflower produces thickened nectar, apparently not too conducive to butterflies). No wing tag observed. First Monarch I have seen in over 5 years (very low migration numbers in NM in recent years- only 10th Monarch sighting reported this year). Only Monarch seen in 4 hours constant observation for Monarchs at the Tingly Beach Park Bosque and ponds area.
