Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 09/03/2020

Number: 2

We have a picnic patio with flowers all around it. Today at least two juvenile (or possibly adult female) ruby-throated hummingbirds spent much of the day chasing and feeding. Nectaring observed on tithonia, Salvia microphylla "Hot Lips," two Monrovia patented Salvias ("Skyscraper" Dark Purple, and a Guaranitica hybrid "Purple and Bloom"), a red bedding salvia, and lantana "Miss Huff." I suspected them of nectaring on jewelweed, because they flew up from a patch of those. Also available were fall-blooming raspberries. They drank from the feeders, too.
