Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/04/2020

Number: 1

Big rescue today as two milkweed fields are bulldozed to build a parking lot and replace an older building that is falling down. These fields are located at the end of 2nd and 3rd Streets on the northern border of Harrisville State Park. I looked through about 80 smashed milkweed plants and found one 4th stage Instar! I was fortunate to have a couple of campers bring me a container for the caterpillar. I told them I would look for more larva this week, because there may be more in the grass and they might crawl up onto some leftover damaged milkweed plants. I will also look for chrysalids on the building before it's torn down. I thanked Mike and Cathy and took the larva home and put it into my butterfly condo.
