Monarch Adult Sighted

Number: 2

I believe these are the two that came from chrysalises in our garden. The male was on the fence near the third chrysalis that hasn't opened yet (maybe tomorrow?), the female was flying in the trees. I wanted to confirm that the male was really a male, so I stayed with it a long time waiting for it to open its wings. It opened them several times, and I did see the black marks on the back of the lower wings near the abdomen, so I believe it is a male. The chrysalis on the fence became a chrysalis on August 24 mid-morning. On Sept. 2, it formed a black ring around the rim of the chrysalis with a brownish spot on one side and a black dot on the opposite side. Today it looks like the green part is becoming clear on the outside. We're watching it daily several times in hopes we don't miss the great reveal.
