6 ruby throated hummers this evening. 3 females, 2 immature males and lastly a female or juvenile of unknown sex. Feeding was a mix of nectaring on flowers (cigar aka firecrackers and black and blue salvias), nectar feeders and insect catching. Lots of nectaring on flowers and insect feeding. Feeding sessions on nectar feeders while less often are relatively quite long. Length of stay for migrators seems shorter this year than last by 2 - 3 days. Maybe there will be a mid-September burst here like last year. Or the hummers aren't hanging around as long as last year. Maybe they're moving on sooner with a couple cold fronts providing opportunity to move south.
