While it was very difficult to find monarch caterpillars to display at a monarch event, this writer went to two very large agricultural fields from which the clover had been harvested about one month ago. The newly emerged milkweed had been young and tender, and monarchs had layed eggs here. I managed to find 8 caterpillars after a fairly long search, but 7 were 5th instar and one 4th instar.
