Submitted by Don Davis: Sharon David from Kingston, Ontario, was birdwatching in Gowgama, Ontario, looking for an American Three-toed Woodpecker, when she spotted one fresh monarchs. Sharon was not certain if there was milkweed in the area as she was not looking for this, but she reported that there was flowering goldenrod in the area. Sharon formerly worked at Queen's University, Kingston, and was engaged in the imporant monarch research being carried out by late Dr. Barrie Frost. Barrie invented the special apparatus used to demonstrate that monarchs use the sun as a compass. Journey North report: https://journeynorth.org/tm/monarch/OrientationFrost.html
