This is so exciting to me. Mid August I saw my first hummingbird. I didn't know they were here on Long Island. Now I'm hooked. Every spare minute I'm on my deck with my monocular to catch a glimpse of these little jewels. It's like a gift.
3:18 pm
Female fed from the center feeders.
3:25 The longest visit ever. She sipped on my yellow mums and then on my orange zinnias. Then she came to the center feeders and spent 3 minutes gorging. It was windy and if she took a break she'd hover upward and then right back to the nectar. Between her gorging and the wind I was amazed she made it. She finally left but then...SHE CAME BACK for more. This time she went from one to another feeder.
4:40 pm female at the center feeders. I have big red plastic flowers on garden sticks that catch the light and waver in the wind. This female kept looking to feed on these "flowers". LOL. She spent a while feeding and bonking.
5:06 pm I think an immature male at the center feeders. I tried to get a picture from the distance all you can see is something hanging out of the feeder. Sorry. I'm working on it.
At about 7 pm-- I was changing the feeders and I scared off a female who didn't expect to see me at dusk.
