Between approx 10am and 4pm, we netted, tagged and tested for OE, a total of 23 wild, adult monarch butterflies. Almost all were captured while nectaring on Eastern Blazing Star (liatris scariosa), which was in bloom. There were 12 female and 11 males. The temperatures were in the high 60s to mid 70s F, with little < 5mph wind from the NW. Interestingly, this small patch of eastern blazing star was adjacent to a field with a lot of goldenrod in bloom and we saw very few monarchs in that field - not sure why not.
