Before I lose track of a half hour or less in the early morning among the flowers around our picnic table, there were a half dozen hummingbirds, with intense nectaring on fall-bearing raspberries, tithonia, Salvia microphylla "Hot Lips," Salvia "Skyscraper Dark Purple," lantana "Miss Huff," and a quick stop on a white angelonia.
These ruby-throated hummingbirds appear to be juveniles and females, and they've piled up in our urban garden as cold and unfavorable winds slowed their migration.
