It was very windy today, so I took my 2 mile walk a little later at 4 PM. I observed 3 monarchs at 2nd and Jackson Streets and was able to net and tag (ABSW-263) a male monarch nectaring on goldenrod flowers at 4:30 PM. At 5:05 PM, I netted and tagged (ABSW-264) a male monarch nectaring on a species of mint with blue flowers at the 3rd Street walkway in town. Then, on my way home, I saw a monarch migrating about 15' above the ground heading southwest at 3rd and Jackson at 5:15 PM. Finally, my friend (Larry) phoned me at 7:30 PM to report that he saw 1 monarch at his house just northwest of town, and 4 more monarchs in town nectaring on a purple flowered butterfly shrub. These sightings were between noon and 1 PM. Weather was hazy with the Wind SW-11-20 mph, and gust to 30 mph around 3 PM. Sustained wind was 18.3 mph.
