Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/15/2020

Number: 8

Still have 8 ruby throated hummers here today eating, eating, eating, & chasing, chasing, chasing. The hummers are also heavily feeding on insects. One hummer loves the hummingbird swing. Witnessed what looked like a very serious fight. One female forced another female to the ground and appeared to be attacking the downed hummer with its beak for about 15 - 30 seconds. Then the attacking hummer hovered over the other for a few seconds and flew off. I thought there would be serious injury or worse. To my relief the downed hummer got up and flew away after several seconds apparently unhurt! Whew!

The hummer that is the one to leave the yard last in the evening extended quitting time by another two minutes. It left at 7:37. That's the third night in a row she stayed later than the night before.
