While visiting my daughter in the country, we observed and counted at least 38 Monarchs.
The 38 monarchs I counted were between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. The temps were warm, 80's, and very little wind. The Monarchs were flying about five feet above the ground, I kept looking upward to see if they were part of a larger group, but did not see any. I had my binoculars that day as well. They were all flying South, and I did not notice any nectaring, even though there were Cowpen Daisies in all of the ditches. I was sorry I couldn't take photos, because on my Samsung phone, things at a distance are not clear.
It was very beautiful to see them, and very exciting.
