Picture: Hummingbird on guard. 8 ruby throated hummers still hungrily getting nectar from feeders, much nectaring on salvias and cigar flowers, and getting insects. During the day they feed mostly on flowers and grabbing insects. Later in the evening nectaring at feeders increases. Looks like 6 females and 2 immatures.
Its hilarious to watch the aggressive and fearless hummers harass gold finches and chickadees! It's hysterical!
Our late staying hummer finished up at 7:28, a few minutes earlier than the last 3 evenings.
