Hummingbirds quite active, with a lot of chases. This bunch of hummingbirds came in on the north wind on Wednesday, September 16th and were distinguished by less shyness around people and by lack of interest in saucer type feeders (going for flowers in greater variety and for inverted bottle feeders).
I don't like the inverted bottle design, but I pair them with saucer feeders in case of migrants not recognizing the saucers. One hummer that appears to be a juvenile made the switch as I watched. There were bees on the inverted bottle feeder, and it went back and forth, clumsily looking at the ports on the saucer and back at the "flowers." Then it got a taste of the sugar water in the saucer type feeder. It took a couple more looks at the bottle and then settled in, learning how to sit and drink from the saucer feeder. On subsequent visits, it went straight for the saucer.
