Sept. 19, saw a new adult monarch butterfly, just briefly, as it flew away from our milkweed patch. There was another chrysalis beginning to turn dark. High was 24.9 C.
Sept. 20, another new adult monarch butterfly emerged; I saw it just afterwards, holding onto that same (empty) chrysalis. This was was female. She stayed overnight. High was 23.4 C.
Sept. 21, saw her again ~11 a.m., just before she flew up --- onto our roof at first, then SW into the top of an American elm tree. Temp. was 17 C at the time, a bit windy.
