At 4:45 pm observed 23 monarchs nectaring. 9 on Symphyotrichum oolentangiense, 6 on S. novae-angliae, 3 on S. puniceum var. puniceum, 3 on Liatris scariosa var. nieuwlandii, and 2 on Verbesiana virginica. The picture is of monarchs on S. oolentangiense. There are other aster and blazing star species adjacent to the plants listed above, but no monarchs were nectaring on them. The number of monarchs has been increasing since all but 1 monarch disappeared following the peak migration. The wind today was 9 mph from the south.
