At 10:40am, while working in the yard, I observed 3 monarchs fly through our yard about 10-20 yards apart. A cold front had just moved through the night before. Today was a partly cloudy day, the temperature was 54F at 10:40am and the winds were from the WSW at 8mph.
Then from 11:00-11:15am, I observed 12 monarchs fly through. The temperature had increased to 57F and the winds shifted slightly to being from the W at 10 mph.
It's amazing to watch these butterflies make progress against the wind. They were all flying in a southwesterly direction.
