Number: 50

They were flying, no landing that I saw. I have a huge flower garden in my front yard, but they were on a mission, no time to stop for a sip. Every minute or so, one or two would pass overhead. I would be walking along in my yard, see a shadow on the ground, look up, and there would be another one. I counted 50 or more the short time I was outside.

50 was an estimate, I was outside 3 different times, I saw the most butterflies early in the morning, but continued to see them in the early afternoon as well but at a lesser frequency. I saw about half of them between 10 and 11 am, at that time, we were in a boat on the lake, and they were flying lower. Later in the afternoon, they were flying high, over the tree tops, headed slightly southwest in direction.

In the photo, they were tree top high in the sky, so it looks like an orange spot. I circled it, you can see some leaves on some of the trees on the left side.
