One Monarch sighted at 4:25 PM at Caney Fork Overlook, elevation 5,650'. Sunny, about 65 degrees, very light breeze (the day before had been cold and rainy). We had gotten on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville around 2:00 and traveled south, stopping at numerous overlooks to look for Monarchs and other butterflies. We only saw one other butterfly during our roadtrip at Pounding Mill Overlook (from a distance it looked like it could have been a Monarch, but it flew away before I could get close enough to see it). We went as far as Caney Fork Overlook (where we had seen hundreds of Monarchs last year at this time) and then returned to Asheville via the BRP. No other sightings.
