You can take a teacher out of an educational setting, but you can't take the educational spirit out of a teacher. I retired five years ago. While I was teaching, my classes participated officially and unofficially for many years! (I say unofficially because there were years during which the "right bulbs" weren't available locally, and we couldn't get the funding needed to purchase the Red Emperor bulbs by mail. So, we substituted.) My newest endeavor is maintaining a Little Free Library. It occurred to me that it would be fun to start a test garden beneath my Little Library for all to watch. So, today I planted 14 tulip bulbs under the library which sits next to the public sidewalk.I plan to raise awareness of this website through flyers in my library, encouraging others to start their own tulip gardens and comparing their growth to those of other test gardens via your website. Library users will watch the "Virginia Street Little Free Library" tulips emerge and eventually bloom. Many families in our area have chosen to educate their children virtually this fall. Journey North provides so many wonderful opportunities for family science projects!
