I observed the Monarch caterpillar on a so-far unplanted Asclepias angustifolia plant I had purchased on the 15th of Oct. at the DBG Plant Sale. Not sure whether an egg was already on the plant or whether an adult laid an egg on the plant while it was waiting to be planted. I also observed it attaching to a Lantana leaf nearby and now its pupae is hanging onto the leaf. Hope I can observe the "coming out" in the next few days. I took photos of all of the observations.
