Sightings report image

Number: 1

There have been five Whooping Cranes at Sand Lake Refuge for the past few weeks. One pair with one young bird and another pair feed fairly close to each other. While we watched yesterday the young bird laid down and took a nap and the 2 adults stayed close, one on each side. The other pair was off a ways feeding. Then, toward dark they took off together and headed off toward a group of trees to bed down on the ground. Sorry the pictures are so far away. They stayed in the middle of the section as there was a lot of action with harvesting and all.
