Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/27/2020

Number: 2

Found (2) tiny caterpillars in the Allentown Rd. field. Both in the center of a new, tiny plant with Lots of Aphids. I went there to pick leaves for (2) others I was feeding from Chestnut Hill Rd, where plants were not nice anymore. The Allentown Rd. field had been mowed a few weeks before and new plants were popping up because of warmer weather.
**When they were getting ready to spin on 10/12 and 10/13, the one did not spin fully...I've never seen this in 40 years of raising them! :(
*The other one spun fine and hatched into a Beautiful "Male" Monarch on 10/27/20. (My co-worker was happy to see another one hatch, even this late in the season. :) ) It was a rainy & cold stretch, so when the weather finally warmed and the sun came out, on 11/4, we took him and some others to fly free in the South. Daytime temps will be 60's to mid 70's for the next week. :) I hope he has safety and nourishment. Plants are brown, but we did manage to find some older zinnias at someone's house, and the sun was warm... even at 3:40 pm. :)
