I have not observed any monarchs in the Harrisville area since October 13th. With the weather being very cold and with rain, frost, snow and foggy conditions for the rest of October, especially north of here, I have to think that the monarchs could not survive. Although the temperatures have been very above normal for November, still no monarchs. For the year, I and other participants counted 1,263 monarchs as compared to 5,283 last year. This is a 76% decline. So, with this report, I conclude this season with a picture of my first monarch tagged 11 years ago at Harrisville State Park. See you next year!
