One monarch flew out of a holly tree in the backyard at 6:40 am. Soon thereafter, another monarch joined it. I did not see its origin. They spend the entire day flying around the yard, sometimes singly but other times one chasing the other. They also nectared from the unidentified plant in the photo. Unfortunately, I was not able to get close enough to take a photo of the monarchs or to determine their gender.
