For the last ~2 weeks, around twilight each night we have had hundreds of robins roosting, calling and flying in formations along our stretch of the Russian River. The calls will crescendo and then abruptly stop, only to start again moments later. They have been moving in small groups of 50-250 birds, perching with other groups and then moving en mass just to settle again. This goes on for about an hour until it gets dark.
All of the old timers in the neighborhood claim this has never happened here before!
