The larger eagle to left of image is probably the female of this pair showing the first behaviors of annual pair bonding. Her head is obscured as she is preening her feathers. The smaller bird to right is probably the male of the pair. These eagles perch above the shore of the Kennebec River on this limb of a large black cottonwood most mornings. Recently the male eagle has vocalized with musical chitter calls and some other whistles we have not previously heard by eagles.
