Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/04/2021

Number: 1

Was sitting on the beach in Siesta Key, FL at approximately 1:30 PM on Monday, January 4th, 2021. There were a few seagulls and pelicans flying in the area. While staring out on the Gulf of Mexico, I suddenly saw a rather large, very colorful Monarch Butterfly flying directly toward me. I was shocked as we were approximately 100 feet from any grass or flowers where we sat. The Monarch came within 5 feet of me. Unfortunately I did not have enough time to snap a photo, which I would have cherished. I have had some great interactions with Monarchs, my Mothers favorite... it is comforting to me, as it feels as though she is sending me an, I am alright and I miss you message through these most beautiful creatures. It was so beautiful!
