Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 01/11/2021

Number: 1

The photo is of a calliope hummingbird. We also have a and a buff-bellied hummingbird (since 20 November 2020 - see other report of today for photo). A calliope first showed up around 22-27 November 2020 and is present off and on. I believe that this is the same one, but it behaved a little differently (it perched for 20+ minutes at the feeder and nectared from it occasionally), so it may be a different bird. There have been reports of close to 700 winter resident hummingbirds in Louisiana this winter season. This hummingbird is on our front feeder, which can be observed from the street (453 Audubon Boulevard, New Orleans, LA).
