Rufous hummingbirds are thriving here, thanks to non-stop blooming of bleeding hearts, milkweed, firespikes, and cigar plants, kindness of this winter’s ultra-mild weather in Deep South Louisiana. The 2020-21 continuing presence of Ruby-throated, then Rufous hummingbirds has been a comfort and a gift that makes staying at home more of a treat than a sacrifice.
