Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/15/2021

Number: 1

No photo, sorry. I was on a run so no camera.

The monarch was at about 15 feet flying north from south and appeared in excellent condition.

There is little in the way of nectaring plants or larval plants available to support the Monarchs after the freeze. Our redbuds are beginning to bud, Mexican Plums and Bradford Pears, as well. Bluebonnets are also blooming but the other wildflowers are not blooming, yet. Milkweed, native and non-native, froze to the ground and are just now pushing up new growth.

I am working winter storm recovery at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens and it is the same story there.
