At 12:30pm it was cool and very windy. It was sunny, but the wind was blowing hard and gusting at 16mph. The temperature was 58 degrees F with 42% humidity. Our son saw one monarch nectaring on false garlic flowers in our back yard ~~ very wind blown. I went out to see him/her...but no luck.
I walked around the pastures briefly and did not see any other monarchs at that time. Just observed more freshly emerged milkweed and eggs laid.
At 3:30pm it had warmed up a bit and the wind wasn't as fierce. Temperature 63 degrees F, wind gusts 7mph, 35% humidity. I followed one female monarch who was egg-laying and resting/sunning at times. I also saw a mating pair in the grass ~ almost stepped on them! And I saw monarch flying in our front yard when I went back up.
I am going to submit a separate report & photo about the mating pair in Monarch (Other Observations).
This is a photo of the beautiful female monarch who was finding milkweed to lay eggs on. She had just laid an egg on this very small sprout, but is now resting & sunbathing for a few moments on this chilly, blustery day.
