Chippy, our chipmunk came out of hibernation for the first time on St. Patrick's Day... running around the backyard like crazy, checking all its nooks and crannies for hiding places for all the birdseed and nuts we put out for our wildlife habitat. He made countless trips back & forth with his cheeks full of his stash of goodies. Saw him five more days... but haven't seen him since March 22nd. My daughter figures maybe he's finding a mate?? He was booted out of the small cast iron stove I have in the yard, where I'd hidden woodpecker feed for him, by a squirrel. But they ate across from one another the next day at my red ball feeder full of black oil sunflowers, which sits on a cement block. So we're hoping he's off on a mating trip and not hurt or gone.
