This was a cool, windy, and sunny Holy Thursday. Throughout the day I saw monarchs around: flying, nectaring, sunning, air-tussling, females looking for milkweeds & egg-laying.
As I followed a couple of the females monarchs on their low-fluttering search for milkweed, they at times were interrupted by males spotting them and giving chase. I didn't see any captures today, just some good aerial shows of flying talent and speed.
There was the usual nectaring from wildflowers and blackberry blossoms, as well as a lot of resting/sunbathing on this cool day. Temperatures stayed in the 60's and humidity was low.
This is a photo of one of the beautiful female monarchs laying eggs today. She laid multiple eggs on this milkweed (Asclepias viridis). If you look closely you can see one on a flower bud & one on the underside of the leaf in front of her wing.
